“There was a time when we did not walk the Earth.” This is the first line from a new book, a work in progress, to be published in due course by The Silent Eye.
Not walking the earth may also be a fate reserved for my co-director, Steve Tanham, if he springs another surprise on me like the two he just ‘happened’ to mention in the course of this week’s meeting. He had, somehow, ‘forgotten’ to mention the talk we are giving in Manchester on the 18th October at MST (details will be on the website in due course).
Then, almost in passing, Steve drops the date of the first formal Silent Eye meeting into the conversation…just a week after the talk in Manchester…
So, an hour’s presentation has taken all day to outline and put together, with so many tangential debates arising from the content. As a consequence of the past two days work, we have the content of the year’s course mapped in some detail, as well as the basics of the next three years of study. We have personal rituals designed and the foundations shaped for the rituals, study books and Initiations to follow.
The Facebook page is up and running, blogs and Twitter to follow. Thanks to Mark, we now have a forum ready to launch on the website for registered users and the website will be expanding almost daily. We live in exciting times when the wonders of the internet are so freely accessible and communication is easier than at any time in human history. With communication comes the dissemination of ideas, like wind-borne seeds, making sharing more possible than ever before.
We had a very productive and intense two days this week, covering much hitherto unexplored territory, with our minds striking creative sparks between them. The more we work, the more the process flows. My background, set against the vista of a wide and eclectic home-life, is in the Western Mystery Tradition and Qabalah. Steve, my co-director, comes from a Rosicrucian family and was for some time Grand Councillor for the North of England, Scotland and Ireland, as well as a leading figure in the Servants of the Light where we first met. We approach the work from two very different perspectives that meld into a dynamic vessel for what we are bringing to birth with the School.
Indeed, it is very like giving birth... and a wicked part of me rather appreciates watching a male go through the labour pains involved in the process. As a woman and mother I can relate to that.
As with any conception there is the initial vision of the child you bear, but rather unclear and blurred at the edges. As time passes and the child stirs in the womb, quickening, one begins to get a different ‘feel’ for the child, its character, its humanity, and critically, its reality. One begins to put one’s house in order, changing one's life around to fit the needs of the child, driven by the inner imperative to provide the child with all it needs to have the best chance to grow in the Light and to fully embrace all the possibilities in the world.
Bringing the School to birth is not unlike this process. We too are driven by an inner imperative to create the strongest foundation upon which to build and the work we do now will shape the myriad possibilities of the future of the Silent Eye.
